It Was A Battle!

Once again, the folks at The Museum in KW put on a great event! 26 artists competed in live round painting competition with each artist having 30 minutes to complete a piece. Once done, spectators got to vote on their faves and then bid on pieces to take home. All proceeds go to the artist and The Museum.

Competition was fierce and the crowd truly seemed to enjoy it. At max capacity, over 600 people came to feast their eyes on what the artists came up with. The end products were definitely diverse, with artists using a phenomenal range of techniques and styles.

It’s an interesting process. I got half way through this one, had the water completed, mostly through the forest part and hated the way the colours looked. Checked the clock and with 17 minutes left, took a deep breath and scrapped the whole upper half of the painting. Had to answer a few spectator questions regarding whether or not that was intentionally part of my “process”, and some preferred the forest over the snow capped mountains, but it is what it is and how I felt at the time 🙂

Kudos to The Museum for arranging the event, the artists for participating and all the fans who come out to support the artists and the arts!

Upcoming events…feel free to cross post and get the word out

There are two amazing events coming up and deadlines for artists are fast approaching.

The MUSEUM in KW is holding a Jr Brush Off. This is a fabulous opportunity for young artists aged 14-18 to challenge themselves, add to their CV and portfolios, and benefit the local museum. It’s the same competition that I was in this year, only for younger competitors. The deadline to enter is next week, so artists need to get their applications in fast! It really is a blast and both artists and guests had a lot of fun. Go to THEMUSEUM.ca for details.

The other deadline that is coming up is for Elora’s Artcetera 2013. This fundraiser showcases high calibre artists as well as intriguing items donated from patrons. Elora supports a dynamic and thriving artist community with events, workshops, festivals and art shows going on year round. Artists do receive a percentage of the auction end total, so everyone benefits!!

Have fun and explore!

Come watch me paint live at “The Brush Off 2013” at the MUSEUM in KW

Wow! Just found out that I will be competing in The Brush Off 2013 at The MUSEUM in KW in January! It sounds like so much fun and I am so excited and can’t wait.

23 artists will get together. Each artist will receive the same materials (paints and canvases). Using our own tools, styles and techniques, we will have 30 minutes to paint a work of art. At the end of each round, guests will use their ballots to vote for their favourites. The winner from each round will move onto the next level to compete again. Immediately after each round, the creations will be put up for auction with proceeds going to help the MUSEUM.

Better brush up on my acrylic work beforehand to get a feel for them again since I’ve been pretty much using oils :o)

Get your tickets soon as the event sells out quickly! Each tickets gets you ballots to vote for your faves for each round, and there will be a cash bar, music and a brilliant, electrifying atmosphere all night!

Hope to see you there!
