More energies…

I finished ( at least I think I did lol) the latest large painting. A mass of energy directed onto the canvas, this one is what it is and the responses to it have been interesting and diverse, which is what all art should evoke. At 40 by 60, with the bold colours and movement, it is not for the weak of heart, or for those who favour more subdued colours or scenes, but I love it…I think…unless I work on it more. Unfortunately, it has been difficult to get a photo that captures the essence of it live as the light tends to play with the layering of glazes and changes the colours and the details.

And something that harkens back to the series I have been playing with. This one shows the complimentary yet conflicting energies that sometimes we deal with in our souls.

Do Over….

Every artist has them-those works that never quite make it to where you want them to go. you look at them, and look at them, and hmm. Nope. That is when gesso comes in handy. Although, when you’ve done something textured, you have to be prepared to deal with the impression of the under painting coming through. Sometimes, it works. Other times, not so much. In this case, I kind of like the textured surface from the old work coming through to the new one as it adds another dimension to it. Not my fave medium, as anyone who has been following this journey knows, in this case, the acrylics came in handy.

New Year Sale!

Once again, with the new year, comes new things. However, in order to make room for new things, new styles, new fun, i need to downsize some of the pieces currently taking up residence in my limited studio space.

All works not currently associated with a gallery are on sale up to 40% off. If there is a piece that you have been eyeing up, send me a message with the title, and I will send you details regarding prices. Please note that prices do not include shipping. Pieces can be shipped on the stretcher bars, or I have successfully shipped different pieces around the world by taking them off the stretcher frame, rolling and sending. That would mean, however, that you would have to get them re-stretched, or framed accordingly. Please also check for import fees depending on your country.

A jaunt down this lane and that…

And then some! None of the following works are done by any stretch of the imagination, but it would appear between my own mind’s direction and the desires of others, this is what I will be working on for the next while. Will be interesting to see where the mind goes next, no?

Boxes, walls, and a whole other direction

I had a visitor browse through my studio the other day and they commented on how they find it intriguing that I am continually switching things up. There was a figurative work in pastel tones, behind which was a palette knives birch landscape. And sitting on my easel, still not completed was “this” I had just spent the past couple of days purging, cleaning and organizing and had boxes and walls dancing in my mind. A different style of abstract from my usual more fluid shapes, this one is far more linear. It’s still not completed and we shall have to see where it ends up. The one below  goes to show the power of mood and mind-a totally different colour scheme, vibe and technique…still unfinished but not forgotten.

Upcoming: Intuitive Expressions Artistic Workshop

That’s right, everyone gets to come together and play with intuitive expression.

I’m offering this workshop Saturday, July 12 from 10:30-3:30. Lunch will be included. Spaces will be limited so any interested parties should contact me soon to reserve a spot. As we will be spending the day outside, an alternative rain date will be provided.

The whole day will be spent in a lovely outdoor setting in Branchton, Ontario, ideal for inspiring the creative spirit. The purpose of the workshop is to break creative boundaries, to learn how to listen to your intuitive spirit, to learn how to be playful with your artistic adventures again, and most of all to have fun. There are no rights or wrongs-it will be what it will be, and the idea is to let go and flow on the journey of self expression.

It will be up to you to choose your materials to play with. Large or small canvases? One canvas or multiple? Paper? Collage? Acrylic, oils, side walk chalk?

I would suggest that you choose something that will allow you to really blow the boundaries out of the water-try some free form body tracing and painting-use large brushes, rollers, knives. Squish, splatter, layer, texturize and blend to your heart’s content. And if you get stuck, break the creative head block by jumping in the pool and floating for a bit 🙂

More details will be forthcoming including fee, registration form and materials suggestions.

Namaste and come and play!
